Germany

Friday

Sicker than dogs but having the time of their lives

semi-overcast

Picture a potato dumpling. Fluffy and soft? Reality - a flat potato pancake dripping in oil. However, in their attempt to fully experience the German culture, the two sisters decided to eat them last night.
And woke up this morning SICK, SICK, SICK. Or was it the Heidelberger beer that seem to flow continuously?

Caroline ate noodles and I ate a veggie wrap and feel great. And, I got a "diet" Pepsi - Pepsi Light.

This morning we met our Disney Adventure tour guides. Their names are Nadine (like Caroline's piano teacher) and ........... JENAE! There is a girl Caroline's age on our tour, Samantha, from Connecticut.

Observations:
My voice on the beginning of the Day#1 video is scary.
Currency rate is $1 = $1.50
Money is separated by commas instead of periods. i.e., $1,50
My mother keeps trying to speak in Spanish. Si?
Just by looking around, I have not seen one obese person
Bikes have their own paths on the roads and are abundant. Mary Poppins-style bikes.
Lunch is the big meal of the day. Breakfast and supper are light.
Caroline slips easily into her British accent.
Lobbies on the elevators are "0," the equivalent of Mayo's subway is "-1"
Germany is the size of Montana and has 16 "states"
Tips/gratuity are included in all meals so extra tipping is for superior service.

Word of the Day: Guten Tag
Pronunciation: GOOT-EN TAHK
Guten Tag means hello or good day!

I'll post a new video later.

We had a great flight - Caroline and I worked on crossword puzzles (I found some great K-1 crossword puzzles at ABC ToyZone), making mermaids and reading. She is getting so good at "reading in her head." It was a much easier flight on her than Hawaii was because she is more easily entertained by herself. Mom and I watched "What Happens in Vegas." We flew all night, but for some reason I didn't sleep at all ... and I usually go to bed before 10 p.m. I'm sure I'll be tired in a couple of hours.

We were greeted right away by an Adventures by Disney representative holding a sign who loaded up our luggage and drove us to Heidelberg, which was about an hour away. We went on the Autobon where there is no speedlimit. Her speedometer was in kilometers, but I'm sure we were going well over 100 mph. My kind of driving! All of the cars, of course, are Mercedes (even the cabs), Audis and Volkswagons - I have not seen one minivan but all sorts of VW Passat wagons like John's.

When we arrived at Heidelburg, we saw a Woolworth's of all things. We checked into the Crowne Royale and Caroline and I cracked up at the size of the bed. My feet hung over the bottom. Caroline watched SpongeBob in German and could understand it because she's seen that episode so many times. We grabbed some fresh melons for breakfast and now are going to relax before Janet and mom want to go to a mall called ....the Galleria! Wonder if there's a Mall of Apache nearby.

Here's my debut video. At the suggestion of Fran Dickson, we got a Flip Video and it is so much fun! See under Day #1 Video.
